Lintel Installation with Column Support

1. Bracket Installation:

  • Use brackets on both sides if there are columns.
  • No extra support is needed for the length of the lintel.
  • Use 3 mm thick 'L' shaped steel brackets that are 100 mm high and 150 mm long.
  • Brackets should be perforated and powder-coated to prevent rust (60 mm to 80 mm).

2. Brackets Size:

  • Choose from 4”, 6”, or 8” brackets as needed.

3. Threaded Rods:

  • For openings over 1.5 meters, use 8 mm threaded rods with Hilti M8 fasteners to secure the lintel to the roof.
  • Attach the rods to the lintel through holes near the bend.

4. Jack Support:

  • Use jack support under the lintel to prevent sagging before starting block work.
  • Do not remove the jack until all work, including water curing, is done.

5. Brick/Block Work:

  • Limit work to 2 rows of bricks or blocks per day.
  • Use GI wall ties and 200 mm GI mesh every second layer to increase strength and reduce vibrations.

6. Applicable Materials:

  • This method works for solid blocks, lightweight blocks, red brick walls, or any type of block or brick wall.

7. Completion Note:

  • Follow all steps to finish the brick/block work before removing the support.
